Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are numerous components which make up a lift truck. The lift truck's main parts comprise the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Additionally, a lift truck consists of a range of attachments. All the components making up a lift truck are all essential as they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The following paragraphs describe several of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or harm the operator. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and various other attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a variety of attachments can be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are really helpful for moving different kinds of loads.
